The Place and the Environment

A gateway to the outside world where nature reigns supreme…

Château de Suronde - The place

The place

Entering here is to forget space and time, to feel the full force this place has to offer. This is what makes Suronde a space of inspiration, reflection, and above all, creation—where nature is abundant. In motion and interacting with its surroundings because it is alive.

Inspired by the soul of the place, Kathleen Van den Berghe has been its proud owner since 2016. In awe of its enigmatic aura, the winemaker continues to write its story in the most natural way.

The environment

A central element of the scenery, the vineyards are all on-site and dominate the view. Its human scale is part of the estate’s unsuspected richness. With a privileged size of 6.5 hectares of vines, 6 of which are classified as Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru, and a single grape variety: Chenin Blanc…

Here and there, 10 hectares of wild nature ensure natural biodiversity, including a garden of plants for biodynamic practices and an orchard of ancient varieties. Because the wines are quite literally made in the vineyard. Both the presence of schist, the soil work, biodynamics, and botrytis contribute to shaping the extraordinary palette of Suronde’s range.

Château de Suronde - The environment

Who would suspect that this microcosm, double-certified Organic (Ecocert) and Biodynamic (Demeter), would shine so brightly on the Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru?

It is even the only estate to have its winery located within the appellation. No power of place without the power of the vineyard.
